Artist Statement
My work has been called whimsical. I interpret it as abstract impressionism in which I use a number of techniques to achieve the effect. These include a process similar to a monoprint to establish the background or, at times, layered translucent acrylics with a drybrush technique. The image is enhanced using metallic washes. I also use a nib designed to be used with thick viscous black acrylic paint to outline, create texture and subject matter, similar to pen and ink.
Envisioning the process is as intriguing as creating the art work. It gives me a wide range for improvisation and, along with subject matter, hopefully creates a sense of mystery and wonder for the viewer.
